Campus Y Bonner Leaders Program
About
Welcome to the Carolina Bonner Leaders Program! We are excited that your passion for community service and engagement has brought you to us.
To apply for the Bonner Leaders Program, sign in to Heel Life to access the form on the bottom of this page! Applications are now live and will be reviewed on a rolling basis now through August 28th, 2023! At this time only incoming first-year and transfer students with at least 3 years of expected enrollment at Carolina are eligible to apply.
The Bonner Leaders Program is committed to developing student leaders while exploring social justice, civic engagement, community building, diversity, international perspectives, and personal beliefs. Our program is housed within the Campus Y, a department within the Division of Student Affairs. The Campus Y is a collaborative space that unites students, staff, faculty, and community partners in the pursuit of social justice.
Bonner Leaders receive financial support through the Federal Work-Study program for their community service, training, and enrichment activities. For this reason, all candidates for the Bonner Leaders Program must demonstrate Work-Study eligibility and funding as determined by the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and have a total award of $3,000 or more per academic year.
Joining the Bonner Leaders Program means a college-long commitment to an internship with a local community organization for approximately 6-8 hours per week, and mandatory Monday night meetings from 6pm-8pm for training and enrichment activities. This adds up to ~10 hours per week, for nearly 300 hours of service per year!
There are other Cornerstone experiences that you are expected to participate in throughout your time in the program, including the All-Bonner Retreat, First-Year Experience, Sophomore Exchange, Junior Retreat, and Senior Presentations of Learning.
There are many additional opportunities for you to take advantage of through this program, in order to deepen your educational and professional experiences, such as: serving as a member of the Bonner Leadership Team, becoming a National Bonner Congress Representative, attending National Leadership conferences, serving as a program intern, and applying for local and international summer internship funding and opportunities.
